Google Discover Traffic Statistics: Clicks, CTR, Reach, and Engagement

Google Discover traffic statistics covering audience scale, publisher clicks, click-through rates, regional reach, and engagement time.

Google Discover is a major source of publisher traffic, but its scale and performance vary by market, month, and measurement method. Google reported more than 800 million monthly active users in 2019, while later publisher panels measured hundreds of millions of monthly clicks, click-through rates near 10%, and meaningful regional differences in pageview share and engagement.

Audience scale and benchmark context

Google said Google Discover had more than 800 million monthly active users in 2019. That figure is an audience-scale benchmark from Google’s 2019 announcement, rather than a current user estimate. It describes monthly active users globally and should not be treated as a direct measure of publisher clicks or pageviews. The source is Google’s Discover new information and inspiration with Search, no query required.

For a later publisher benchmark, the Alliance de la presse d’information générale, or APIG, reported that Google Discover traffic increased 48.8% in 2024 compared with 2023. The APIG annual report described the panel’s 2024 Discover click-through rate as close to 10%. These figures describe the APIG panel and its reporting period, not every publisher or every country. They are reported in the Barometre de la diffusion 2024.

The difference between the audience benchmark and publisher-panel metrics matters. Monthly active users count people using a product, while clicks count visits generated for participating publishers. Click-through rate measures the relationship between impressions and clicks in the panel. Each number answers a different question, so the statistics should be compared as complementary indicators rather than combined into one total.

Monthly clicks in the French publisher panel

The APIG audience and traffic follow-up measured Google Discover clicks for French publishers from January 2024 through June 2025. The monthly series began at 491 million clicks in January 2024 and reached 670 million in June 2025. The source is APIG’s Audiences issues de Google.

Within 2024, the lowest reported month was February at 404 million clicks. The series then recorded 462 million in March, 463 million in April, 533 million in May, and 513 million in June. It rose to 599 million in July and 653 million in August before recording 580 million in September, 591 million in October, 575 million in November, and 569 million in December.

The 2025 observations in the same panel were 609 million clicks in January, 552 million in February, 607 million in March, 591 million in April, 648 million in May, and 670 million in June. The panel therefore reported its highest monthly figure in June 2025 and its lowest in February 2024. Those are observed panel values; they are not a forecast for later months.

Monthly click-through rates

The APIG panel also reported a monthly Google Discover click-through rate for the same January 2024 to June 2025 sequence. Rates started at 8.5% in January 2024, moved between 8.3% and 9.8% during 2024, and remained between 8.9% and 9.8% in the reported 2025 months.

In 2024, the panel recorded 8.5% in January, 8.3% in both February and March, 8.5% in April, and 8.9% in May. The rate reached 9.1% in June, 9.5% in July, 9.6% in August, 9.5% in September, 9.6% in October, and 9.8% in November. December was reported at 9.4%.

The 2025 sequence began at 9.8% in January and 9.7% in February. It then recorded 9.6% in March, 9.2% in April, 8.9% in May, and 9.1% in June. The highest reported monthly rate in the series was 9.8%, appearing in November 2024 and January 2025; the lowest was 8.3%, reported in February and March 2024.

These rates are panel measurements from APIG’s French publisher reporting. They should not be presented as a universal Google Discover CTR benchmark for all websites, industries, devices, or countries.

Regional share of pageviews

Chartbeat’s analysis for June through November 2023 showed that the share of publisher pageviews attributed to Google Discover differed substantially by region. Asia-Pacific publishers saw Discover account for as much as 60% of pageviews at times. Latin American publishers averaged 48% of pageviews from Google Discover, while North American publishers received 24% of pageviews from the source.

The Asia-Pacific figure is expressed as a maximum observed share in the reported period, whereas the Latin American figure is an average and the North American figure is a reported regional share. Those descriptions are not interchangeable. The source is Chartbeat’s data on the content that drives Google Discover traffic and engagement.

Latin American publishers48%AverageJune-November 2023
North American publishers24%Reported shareJune-November 2023

The regional spread shows why a single “typical” Discover traffic share can mislead. In this Chartbeat analysis, the reported Latin American average was twice the North American share, while the Asia-Pacific result could be higher still at particular times. The figures describe pageviews attributed to Discover among the publishers measured by Chartbeat, not the share of all internet traffic in those regions.

Engagement time by region

Chartbeat reported a worldwide average engaged time of 37 seconds for Google Discover traffic in its Q3 2023 analysis. For comparison, the worldwide average engaged time across Chartbeat traffic was 29 seconds in Q3 2023. In the June-November 2023 regional analysis, the corresponding overall Chartbeat traffic benchmark was 28 seconds.

Regional Google Discover engagement times were 41 seconds in North America, 39 seconds in Latin America, 36 seconds in EMEA, and 36 seconds in Asia-Pacific. The regional period was June through November 2023, while the 37-second worldwide Discover figure was identified for Q3 2023. The measurement windows should remain explicit when using these benchmarks.

North America had the highest regional Discover engaged time in the reported comparison at 41 seconds, followed by Latin America at 39 seconds. EMEA and Asia-Pacific were each reported at 36 seconds. These are averages in Chartbeat’s analysis, so they describe measured traffic cohorts rather than a guaranteed time for an individual article visit.

French publisher Google traffic mix

The APIG panel recorded 822 million total Google clicks from French publishers in December 2024. Within that total, Google Search accounted for 191 million clicks and Google News accounted for 62 million clicks. The same APIG reporting also recorded 569 million Google Discover clicks for December 2024.

The December 2024 figures place several Google sources side by side in the French publisher panel: 822 million total Google clicks, 191 million Search clicks, 62 million News clicks, and 569 million Discover clicks. They are source-labeled observations from the APIG panel and should not be generalized to all French publishers or treated as a global Google traffic breakdown. The total and channel figures are reported in the Barometre de la diffusion 2024, while the monthly Discover series is also detailed in APIG’s Google audience follow-up.

Taken together, the available statistics show three different ways to evaluate Google Discover traffic: audience scale, publisher clicks, and visitor quality. Google’s 2019 audience statement supplies the broadest scale benchmark. APIG’s 2024-2025 panel supplies monthly French publisher clicks and CTR measurements. Chartbeat’s June-November 2023 and Q3 2023 analyses add regional pageview-share and engagement-time context. Keeping the source, geography, measurement date, and metric attached to each number is essential when comparing Discover performance.
